Hi everyone, hope you had a great week and ready for a new post!
Before I start todays post, if you missed last weeks post and want to have a read, you will not regret it! Click The Road to Success: It’s About Who You Become
Ever try walking around in the dark?
Maybe you’ve tried to navigate your way to the bathroom in the middle of the night with the light off.
What did it feel like?
Did you at any point kick something, walk into a wall or dresser?
At the very least we know if we decided to move around in the dark at a quick pace it wouldn’t end well.
But, what about the feeling of it, how did it make you feel… Unsure, unclear, hoping you make it safely.
In a more serious situation, if you had to cross a roadway, or go through a path in a dark forest while camping.
Would we get that same feeling? The feeling would be different now would it not?
There’s more risk now. Something more serious can occur. Not just kicking a dresser but something much worse, falling into a hole or off the edge of a small cliff. Maybe even encounter some unfriendly wildlife in the dark.
Who knows… But the risk increases, and the pain and suffering do as well, if something bad happens.
What would help?
Maybe a little light, a flashlight, having more clarity, being more familiar with where you’re going or need to get to.
There are things we experience in life that can shed some light or give us clarity when we need it.
For example, I’m writing this post from my phone on a notepad app while being at my wife’s uncle’s funeral. It’s Thursday today and I decided to get an early start on my post.
I usually write my blog post Friday, so I’m doing it this way, starting Thursday and finishing it and publishing it Saturday. This Friday is busy for our family.
Example #1
Attending a funeral can often cause a person to reevaluate his/her own life and contemplate if something needs to change for life and health to improve.
This very experience has the potential to shed light or provide more clarity in our own lives and how we’re living it.
When we take time to reflect on how to improve, it provides a place for a positive change to happen.
When we can see clearly about something we can then take ourselves there much quicker.
Experience #2
I had another such experience this week that shed light or gave me clarity.
This one had to do with my affiliate marketing business.
We learn in business that it’s important to know what you want to achieve (Dream life) and know where you are (Current life) in order to be able to plan and work towards your end goal.
I thought I knew this…
I went through a process where I was taught to picture my dream life, write it out and cost it out. It was important to know what income would look like to live that life.
Just as important was to know the income required to be made to live our current life, doing affiliate marketing only.
This is referred to as knowing your “dream life number” and knowing your “vital life number”.
From there one can set some actionable goals and steps to take with full clarity.
This week I went through training the helped me capture both these numbers in detail.
The Results!
It was one of the most enlightening moments I’ve experienced since starting my affiliate marketing business.
I thought I did this several months ago and I technically did, but only came up with general numbers, more general dream life, and generalized current life.
When I was a career counsellor, I used to say to my clients “If you are going to general about your resume, how you present yourself to employers, you’ll get general results.
If you get specific and detailed about it you will et get specific detailed results.
When I got very specific and detailed about what my dream life was, what it cost, my current life and my real expenses…Wow!
I could suddenly see both very clearly, very detailed and was able to work out how much I would need to make annually, monthly and daily to reach my dream life.
How did it feel?
It’s challenging to describe how I felt. It was like I felt a shift in my mind and in my belief and faith about it happening. It was empowering, motivating, enlightening.
Like being in a dark forest and suddenly someone handed me a strong flashlight. I could suddenly see clearly and find a path to where I needed to go.
In my affiliate marketing business, I can see the path, I can create a plan, and do what’s necessary to reach my dream life.
How are you feeling?
Are there areas in your life that may need some light, some clarity?
Are there areas in life and business where it’s been too general, or can you see clearly what to do, where to go, and how you’re going to get there?
You can only go as far and as fast forward as you can see, believe, plan and take action.
This isn’t anything too mystical and unreachable.
Accomplishing goals is not just about making a goal, planning it out and executing your plan.
It takes believing in yourself, your plan, and getting the help needed to get you there.
It takes being able to see the end goal.
Seeing includes knowing exactly what it looks like, what it costs, and what it’s going to take.
Do you want to get some more clarity?
- If life had no limits, if money was no object, what does your life look like? Write it down!
- Where would you like to live?
- What home would you live in?
- What entertainment/recreation would you be involved in?
- How many vacations per year?
- What type of car would you drive and how many would you have?
- Which charities would you support?
- Would you have Investments in stocks or real estate?
- Would you have a new bigger wardrobe?
- Would you assist any family or friends when needed?
By asking yourself these questions you can get a picture of your dream life! It’s going to take some time and consideration, as well as documenting it.
Dream Life Number
- Calculate cost per month for each item in “Life by Design”.
- Figure out taxes for that income and add taxes number to dream life number.
- Put a figure on everything
- Once you have this number you have your ultimate goal 😊
- Home + Prop tax = $
- Utilities = $
- Food = $
- Recreation = $
- Vacations = $
- Vehicle/transportation = $
- Total monthly = $
- Annual Income = $
- Total Monthly + taxes = $
Vital Needs Number
- There are many levels to pass through on the road to the dream life
- One is knowing and meeting your vital or current needs
- Provides security and the beginning of freedom.
- Vital Needs
- Housing…………….$
- Groceries/Food…$
- Transportation….$
- Utilities……………..$
- Insurances…………$
- Clothing…………….$
- Cell phone, cable, wifi..……$
- Total = $ per month
- Total = $ per week
- Total = $ per day
Knowing your vital needs number means you know how much you need to earn to be secure and meeting all your current needs financially.
If you’re starting out, you are going to start with small goals that will lead you to your ultimate goal.
You might need to first find the right program or help; someone that has a proven plan you can follow.
You may need to set up a website or blog, get a domain name, host and build your site.
Maybe you have all of this, and your first goal may be to make $1 or make 1 sale.
It could be a goal of getting one lead or subscriber to your email list.

Hi Meredith,
Thanks so much for commenting. I’m so glad you enjoyed the post!
Clarity is key to our success. We can get used to living with a certain level of darkness that we don’t even notice it.
Of course, until some light shines and we say “Wow, I thought I was clear but now it’s much clearer”.
Thanks again.
Denny
Hey, Denny! I like what you said: You can only go as far and as fast forward as you can see, believe, plan, and take action. I like the visual. When I do my planning for the month/week/day, it’s like shining a light on the path forward. I can move forward if I concentrate where the light shines (my plan). I’m very visual! Thanks for this!

Hi Denny,
Great post and yes, we definitely need to always go back to basics and as Dean mentions: “Become a person capable of Success!”
I’ve also had to deal with procrastination during this Affiliate journey and one of our colleagues mentioned this week a great phrase that I’ve written on my whiteboard so that I can see it every day: “Will it make the boat go faster?”.
Truly great to be surrounded by others on the same path who can share all these great experiences.
All the best!
Hi Marc,
Thanks for your comment and feedback!
Yes, becoming the person capable of success, the key word for me is “becoming”.
There’s so much there in the becoming, wins, loses, pain, joy, growth.
That’s a great saying, thanks for sharing it “Will it make the boat go faster?”
All the best!
Denny
Wow, this post really hit home for me. I loved the analogy of navigating in the dark—it perfectly describes how it feels when life gets a bit confusing. Your experiences at the funeral and with affiliate marketing were so relatable and inspiring. It’s amazing how much clarity can change everything!
Thanks for sharing your insights and practical steps to achieving that dream life. It’s motivating to see how breaking things down can light the way. Keep these great posts coming!
Hi Sarah,
Thanks so much for your comment and feedback!
I’m so happy you enjoyed the post and that it it was relatable.
Clarity or light come at different brightness levels. We can be in the dark and not know.
We can get comfortable seeing just enough to get around and leave it at that.
Then light comes and we suddenly realize how dark it really was.
I appreciate your encouragement! All the best on your journey!
Denny
Denny I really liked your analogy of walking in the dark, the feelings that come with doing it, the fears that come from the not know what to expect. With some clarity like a flashlight in the dark or a mentor in your business you can see with a much greater focus of where you want to go, where you may want to be and how to get there. Great job with finding your flashlight! Here’s to your continued Success!
Hi Ken,

I’m so happy you enjoyed the post and could relate to it.
I appreciate the encouragement and wish you continued success as well!

This reminds me of Stephen Covey who used to say it is important that we all focus on those things that are important but not urgent. These kind of thoughts help you stay ahead of the game
