If you’re encountering hurdles in business or life, you thought you’ve already jumped and want to put them behind you for good, this may be for you!
Whoever tells you that running an online business is an easy thing either hasn’t really done it or is definitely lying to get your buy-in. However, in this case I’m not talking about scammers, I’m talking about the hurdles we must jump to continue moving forward in business and in life.
You’ve probably heard it said that running a business isn’t like a 100m race but it’s more of a long-distance run or a marathon. It takes endurance, a good pace and will last as long as you have the business. I’d like to include that in that marathon we come across hurdles every so often we need to leap over. 🏃
When we jump a hurdle it’s important to celebrate it and continue through our marathon. The trouble is we can lose focus or get distracted between hurdles, and suddenly another hurdle catches us off guard and we can stumble over it.
Something similar happened to me recently and can happen to anyone.
What Happened?
If you’ve read my blog post a couple posts back, you’d have read about my breakthrough with overcoming a hurdle called fear in relation to filming video shorts for TikTok. I had put it off for about 3 months and finally jumped the hurdle recorded/posted and celebrated.
After 2 videos posted, I started getting busy with other things, blogging, blog hopping, finding new blogs to follow, changing this or that on my site… I convinced myself these things were important enough to devote most of my time to. Something felt off the longer I put off filming though.
So I sat down and question myself on these decisions and got real with myself. I was doing the “good cop / bad cop” routine on myself 😆 just kidding…
The Real Reason
The truth is I’ve been making myself busy with other things, putting off filming and posting on TikTok because I was still dealing with fear! When I jumped the fear of filming hurdle, it seems I’ve been dragging that hurdle behind me since and ignoring it!
If we really take some time to evaluate some of these things we’re doing in life and business and why, would it reveal something else we’re avoiding? It’s possible!
Are you willing to sit down with yourself, have a heart to heart and ask yourself some questions and be true to yourself? You can even try “good cop / bad cop”. 😉
The process is like trying to determine our “WHY, in why we want to succeed in business. Asking ourselves why we are doing this not that, avoiding this or that. Why, why, why…
I know it may sound foolish, but it’s easy to allow something to linger when we choose to leave it in back of our thoughts, where we can easily avoid it to do something else.
So, What’s The Solution?
The solution is FIND IT and CHANGE IT or DO IT! Whatever the task go and handle it, get it out of the way. Make a choice at that moment to put whatever is needed in place for it to not be avoided again. One way can be to put it on your to do list for the day or the week of work.
So here I go! I’m going to stop writing and go get myself ready to record my 3rd TikTok video!
No bedtime until I do it… Then I’ll come back to finish this post!
⏳ ⏳ ⏳
How Did It Go?
To be continued…
Recording is DONE and will be posted a few minutes after I post this blog. It actually wasn’t hard for me after realizing I was holding myself back, as mentioned above. Feel free to check out my Recording 🙂
How’s The Business Going?
The affiliate marketing business is going well and I would describe it as slow and steady.
Taking the time to blog, blog hop, post on social media, record video (will happen more now), work on driving traffic and help my readers any way I can. One day at a time.
Remember, I’m making sure to do this right and take the time needed to learn the necessary skills to use over the long term.
It’s about making a living and even getting rich at some point, but most importantly staying that way forever. Having financial freedom and leaving a legacy for my family.
Taking a year or more to get established first is a short time when I think of being financially set for the next 30 – 40 years!
When I look back, this time taken to build the business will look like nothing in comparison to the blessing I’ll be able to generate for our family.
On that note, onward and forward we go!

Great post! Fear can definitely destroy dreams and cause us to stand still and not do what we need too. Consistent action in the direction of our dreams one day at a time is key. Thank you for sharing your success and understanding about the importance of mentorship to become successful.
That’s very true Michelle. Fear can certainly slow things down and even stop us.
Consistent action even is it’s a small amount will get us there.
See you back soon 🙂

Hi Denny – The ability, desire and courage to be honest with yourself is a key factor to success. It looks like you are doing just that to elevate your game! My hurdles tend to be overthinking, how I spend my time and now, like you, are creating videos. I have not created any yet, but I hope soon. Thans for the motivation with your story!

Hi Ernie,
Thanks for your encouragement and feedback!
I’m happy you found some motivation in my story 🙂
Been following your journey as well and know you will jump those hurdles!
All the best as you progress!
Denny
Hi, Denny!
I can relate to putting off what I need to do to do what I’m much more comfortable with.
I need to learn how to post my blog on social media, and I am trying to figure out what I’m doing. I don’t post on social media, so when I posted my blog on Facebook this morning, I realized I didn’t know how to do it. I expect there’s a way to get the main picture to show.
That’s an example of something I haven’t wanted to do for over a year. And even though I finally did it, I am not looking forward to learning how to do it correctly. Lol!
I will use your blog as inspiration to jump that hurdle and not drag it behind me any longer.
Thanks, Denny!
Onwards and Forwards!

Hi Nakina,
Thank you for your feedback and encouragement.
I’m so happy you feel inspired to use my blog to jump your hurdles 🙂 glad to help.
I don’t use images yet in my blog but if I did I would use that same image when sharing on Facebook.
When I make a post I would post the picture I want and in the text area I would write my post intro and include the link to the post.
Hope that makes sense 🙂 If you want to see one of my FB posts click this link “”
Thanks again,
Denny
Great post, Denny! It’s so important to address the hurdles we face in business and in life head-on. Recognizing and overcoming fear is a huge step towards growth and success. Keep pushing forward and taking those necessary steps to build your business. Looking forward to seeing your continued progress!
Hi Alison,
Thanks for your feedback and encouragement!
It’s motivating watching you progress in your journey!

Hi Denny, I do enjoy your TikTok videos. Sometimes it just takes courage to get in front of that camera even if it is something as familiar as an iPhone that we take with us everywhere we go. There is something comforting about using the iPhone, which is a friend in every other dimension of my life. What did you think about the news this week that the United States might close down TikTok because of the Chinese investment in the company? Not that this will happen anytime soon, but it may be important for us to call our Congress people.
HI Kate,
Thanks for your feedback and encouragement!
I’m getting a little less anxious about recording 🙂
About the TikTok ban, I think the concern is that TikTok seems to access more of your smartphone thank any other app out there.
So, they fear the phone can be used for negative intent and it becomes and national security issue for them.
I heard Joe Rogan speak about the app the terms so service or policies showed TikTok requesting access to much of the phone.
I’m from Canada so if banned in USA it would hurt who I can reach but it would still be available in Canada…for now 🙂

Isn’t it interesting how we can be our own enemies. We come up with all the reasons in the world not to do something, then we finad out it was not so bad after all. You are right that building an online jouney is not always easy. We must trust in the process Dean laid out for us.
Scott Rulon recently posted…My Roadmap to Affiliate Success
Hi Scott,
Thanks for your feedback and encouragement!
It’s very interesting indeed. Maybe it’s the fear of the unknown, and we make it so big in our head.
Definitely need to continue to trust the process 🙂
Denny
Hey Denny, I followed you on your TicTok channel. Good job of expressing who you are– no fake! Press in and let’s enjoy our success.
John
Hi John,
I appreciate your feedback and encouragement.
I only know to express what’s real. I’ve done online biz in the past the other ways and it didn’t work for me.
If I can be open and honest then it’s much easier to write and record.
I’m not a good actor, so being real is all I have 🙂
Thanks again!
Denny
Denny, thanks for a great post. Regarding making videos for TikTok. I’ve been doing this for a couple of weeks now and I’ve learnt a few things. We have to get over what we think, what others will think and also being conscious of what we look like etc. After a few videos you forget about that. The main thing though is to be consistent in posting. What I’ve learnt is that you should be consistently posting and by that I mean at least once a day if not three times a day throughout the day every single day without fail. It’s this kind of behaviour that will get you the traction and the following that you need. I wish you were the best, thanks, Atif

HI Atif,
Thanks for your feedback and encouragement!
I appreciate your advice and suggestions.
I’m trying to get to 3 posts per week right now, maybe work towards 1 post per day 🙂
Look forward to future feedback from you!
Denny
I understand the fear very well and you are facing it admirably! Well done and a timely message for a lot of newbies!
Hi Kae,
Thanks for your comment and encouragement 🙂
I know the goal is to potentially post 1-3 TikToks per day.
I’m working towards 3 per week, it’s what I can handle and it’s okay.
We work a different paces 🙂
Hope to see you back again!
Denny
Hi Denny,
I commend you for overcoming your fears with video and just plunging forward. Great job! This is a big hurdle for me as well, and I haven’t yet begun that journey. I’m desperately trying to keep up with all the everyday necessities, including doing what I require of myself in my business. I’m getting there and will conquer that fear once I am ready. Sounds like excuses, right? Ugh… I know.
I look forward to reading about your journey and seeing more videos of you. Keep up the great work.

Hi Vanessa,
Thanks for your comment and encouragement!
Unfortunately the fear doesn’t just disappear but does get easier with every video.
Can’t wait to see your recording 🙂 I’m sure they’ll be great!
Look forward to staying connected, see you back again!
Denny
Hi Denny,
I’m reading your blog and its as if its a mirror image of my restraint and fears!
So I’m on vacation until the 25th but during this time, I’ll be looking at how to use my Social Media accounts – like Tik Tok – and getting rid of that dang fear of video!
Looking forward to reading how you’re doing with your videos – and showing you how I got rid of my fears of them!
To our success!
Hi Marc,
Thanks for the comment and I appreciate your encouragement!
Hope I can offer any help encouragement, let’s definitely learn from each other!

Hi Denny,
Going through similar challenges with TikTok but hope to learn and keep moving forward.
Watched your video above and think you are doing great!
Keep going.

Hi Denny, I just succeeded to overcome the hurdle of fears and made my firsts TikTok vids. It takes for me still many time to produce a single 1min video. But I’m making progress I hope. For me it’s a journey for being my own boss and getting back a decent retirement.
Martin
Hi Martin,
That’s great news, congrats your videos!
Recording can take time when needing to do several takes 🙂
My first one felt like it was only 2 minutes but was actually 7 min.
I had to keep recording until I could get it to 2 min or so.
We’ll get better as we work through it.
Denny
Hi Denny, I really liked your image of dragging the hurdle behind you….it’s interesting how we can ignore our own procrastination and the real cause of not getting things done that really need doing. You gave me the push to admit to myself my own lack of accomplishments are due to the same kind of struggle…mental blocks or struggles with new skills/tools. Since everything here is new for me it all feels like I’m swimming in the deep end with weights on my ankles! I look forward to hearing about how your TikTok progresses.

It can be very challenging figuring this stuff out.
Good things don’t often come without challenges 🙂
I think you’re doing great!
Denny
Hey Denny, I just found your blog to be honest and from the heart. It was so refreshing to read something that was not contrived or borrowed from the internet or created by robots. I’m ashamed to admit that I have been guilty of doing just that lately. But, I’m going to take a leaf out of your book and hopefully follow suit in future. By the way, I’ve seen your videos and I am so glad to see that the honesty shines through in them as well. Except for my last one, I had to write myself a script and it’s so obvious that I’m reading from one. I found it so hard to talk on the fly but you are a natural. Keep up the great work, my friend.
Andy
Hi Andy,
Thanks for your feedback!
It’s actually less stress just being honest about what I’m doing and how.
At first I was hesitant because I’m very private and don’t usually want people to know about my life.
Since I made the choice to be an open book, it’s actually made sharing content easier 🙂
Regarding my videos, I usually know what I want to say but I make some notes in bullet form (just several words) to remind me if I forget.
I prop my phone against my laptop screen facing me to record and on the opposite side of laptop screen I have my notes on MS Word doc or sticky note.
Makes it easier, if I lose track I just glance to the right and look at the next bullet to remember.
Thanks for the encouragement! We’ll improve as we move!
Denny
Denny,
I am not sure why people think that an online business is different from brick and mortar. There are few differences but not as many as people believe there is. I think that is why so many fail at online businesses. No one will put up a brick and mortar business and expect to run it only one day or a couple hours a week. It takes hard work and time for it to become profitable. The same with an online business it take time and requires navigating the hurtles.
I fell int this trap and had to readjust my reality and expectation. The good thing is that if we stick with it we can have a thriving online business in time.
I know you can are going to stick with it despite the obstacles that come your way.
Keep Moving Forward.
CJ
Hi CJ,
Thanks for your feedback.
It certainly does require a lot of work for online business.
Thanks for your encouragement, I’m not planning on quitting.
Onward and forward.
