<p data-start="396" data-end="448"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">And still feel like something isn’t right anymore.</span></p>
<p data-start="455" data-end="499"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">That’s the part no one really talks about.</span></p>
<p data-start="506" data-end="594"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">There’s a quiet tension many midlife professionals experience but rarely say out loud.</span></p>
<p data-start="601" data-end="634"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">On one hand, life looks stable.</span></p>
<p data-start="641" data-end="722"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">You have a job.</span><br data-start="656" data-end="659" /><span style="font-size: 14pt;">You have income.</span><br data-start="677" data-end="680" /><span style="font-size: 14pt;">You’ve built something over the years.</span></p>
<p data-start="729" data-end="767"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">But internally, something feels off.</span></p>
<p data-start="774" data-end="880"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">A disconnect you can’t quite explain… just a sense that what once fit, doesn’t fit the same way anymore.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">You start thinking:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Is this enough?</span></i><i><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></i> <i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Do I want to keep doing this the same way for the next 10–15 years?</span></i><i><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></i> <i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Is there another way to earn that feels more aligned with how I want to live?</span></i></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">And almost immediately, another voice shows up:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I should just be grateful.”</span></i><i><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></i> <i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Other people have it worse.”</span></i><i><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></i> <i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Maybe I’m expecting too much.”</span></i></span></p>
<p data-start="1606" data-end="1667"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">I know this cycle well because I’ve gone through it myself.</span></p>
<p data-start="1674" data-end="1717"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">On the outside, everything looked stable.</span></p>
<p data-start="1724" data-end="1865"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">But internally, work started to feel heavier… not because it was harder, but because it no longer felt aligned with where I was in my life.</span></p>
<p data-start="1872" data-end="1919"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">That’s when the questions started showing up.</span></p>
<p data-start="1926" data-end="2025"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">I began to wonder if I wanted to keep going down the same path, or if something needed to change.</span></p>
<p data-start="2032" data-end="2079"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Not out of frustration… but out of awareness.</span></p>
<p data-start="2086" data-end="2145"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">I wanted something that felt more aligned with my values.</span></p>
<p data-start="2152" data-end="2208"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Something that respected my current energy and health.</span></p>
<p data-start="2215" data-end="2329"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">And yes, something that could create more income in a way that actually supported my life, not just sustained it.</span></p>
<p data-start="2336" data-end="2381"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">But almost immediately, the guilt followed.</span></p>
<p data-start="2388" data-end="2413"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Do I even deserve more?</span></p>
<p data-start="2420" data-end="2472"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Should I just be grateful for what I already have?</span></p>
<p data-start="2479" data-end="2522"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">Is it too late to want something different?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">That internal conflict can be confusing.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Because the desire for more doesn’t feel purely financial.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">It feels deeper than that, a</span><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">nd that’s because it is.</span></p>
<h1><b>The Hidden Guilt Around Wanting More</b></h1>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">I was raised with the belief that wanting more, especially financially, can be seen as greedy.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">I&#8217;m sure I &#8216;m the only one who grew up with this potentially limiting programming. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">So when that desire shows up, it often gets suppressed, because we choose to shut it down.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Not because it’s wrong, b</span><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">ut because it feels uncomfortable.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Especially in midlife, when you’ve already built a level of stability.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">You might think:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I’ve done well enough.”</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> “I shouldn’t complain.”</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> “I should just stay where I am.”</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">But that internal pull doesn’t disappear.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Because it’s not coming from comparison, i</span><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">t’s coming from awareness.</span></p>
<h1><b>Awareness Changes the Equation</b></h1>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">For me, income stopped being just about earning, and started becoming about how I wanted to live.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">I started asking:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Does my current income structure give me the flexibility I need/want?</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Does it support my energy and lifestyle?</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Does it create options for the future?</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">It once felt wrong to ask myself, but learned these are not greedy questions.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">They are reflective ones.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">And they often surface when our priorities evolve.</span></p>
<h1><b>The Difference Between More and Better</b></h1>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Wanting more income doesn’t always mean wanting excess.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Often, it means wanting better.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Better structure.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Better balance.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Better alignment.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">I wanted:</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">More control over my time</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Less dependency on one employer</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The ability to reduce hours without reducing income</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">A way to use my experience differently</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">These desires are not about accumulation.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">They are about <strong>design</strong>.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">And midlife is often when people begin thinking more intentionally about design.</span></p>
<h1><b>Why This Desire Matters</b></h1>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Ignoring this desire doesn’t make it go away. Trust me.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">It just delays the exploration.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">And over time, that can lead to:</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">frustration</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">stagnation</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">regret</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Because the question isn’t just:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">“Do I need more income?”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">It’s:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">“Do I want more options?”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">And options are what give you flexibility in midlife.</span></p>
<h1><b>A Different Way to Approach It</b></h1>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">I&#8217;ve learned through my personal experience, trial and error, that there is a way.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Instead of putting pressure on yourself to “figure it all out,”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Shift into exploration.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Ask:</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">What are some ways I could begin earning differently?</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> What could I test without risk?</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> What would feel interesting to explore?</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">This removes urgency and replaces it with curiosity.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">And curiosity leads to clarity.</span></p>
<h1><b>Final Thought</b></h1>
<p data-start="2801" data-end="2862"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">I haven’t fully figured this out, and I’m not pretending to.</span></p>
<p data-start="2869" data-end="2989"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">I’m still in the process of building something that feels more aligned, more flexible, and more sustainable long-term.</span></p>
<p data-start="2996" data-end="3078"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">But what I can tell you is this, wanting more in midlife doesn’t come from greed.</span></p>
<p data-start="3085" data-end="3111"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">It comes from awareness.</span></p>
<p data-start="3118" data-end="3161"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">And once you see it, it’s hard to ignore.</span></p>
<p data-start="3168" data-end="3245"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">If you’ve been feeling this too, you don’t need to rush into big decisions.</span></p>
<p data-start="3252" data-end="3299"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">You don’t need to have everything mapped out.</span></p>
<p data-start="3306" data-end="3372"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">But you <em data-start="3314" data-end="3319">can</em> start exploring what this might look like for you.</span></p>

<p data-start="3440" data-end="3585"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">It’s the same process I’ve been working through myself, just to start making sense of what “more” actually means, without pressure or overwhelm.</span></p>
<p data-start="3592" data-end="3691"><span style="font-size: 14pt;">If you want to start exploring this for yourself, you can begin here:</span><br data-start="3661" data-end="3664" /><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f449.png" alt="👉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong><a href="https://www.dennymedeiros.com/subscribe/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Get Your Clarity Guide</a></strong></span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">If you’ve been thinking about earning income differently but feel stuck because you “can’t just quit,” you’re not alone.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Most midlife professionals don’t want chaos.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">They want:</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Flexibility</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sustainability</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Control</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Energy alignment</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Stability</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">But when dissatisfaction grows, the brain jumps to extremes.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I either stay miserable.”</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> “Or I quit completely.”</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">There’s a third option:</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Explore quietly.</span></span></p>
<h1><b>You’re Not Starting From Zero</b></h1>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Many people assume exploring something new means reinventing themselves.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">But you already have:</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Years of experience</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Transferable skills</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Industry knowledge</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Professional judgment</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Communication ability</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">The real question isn’t:</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> “What brand-new thing should I do?”</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">It’s:</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> “How can I apply what I already know differently?”</span></span></p>
<h1><b>The Controlled Exploration Model</b></h1>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Instead of dramatic exits, use this model:</span></p>
<ol>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Choose one idea.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Set a 60-day experiment window.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Define limited weekly time.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Track energy and feasibility.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Evaluate objectively.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
</ol>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;">It can be as simple as investing 1-hour per day or 5 hours per week. After 30 days you&#8217;ve invested 20 &#8211; 30 hours and is significant.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">This turns fear into data, a</span><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">nd data builds clarity.</span></p>
<h1><b>Why Quiet Testing Works</b></h1>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Public declarations create pressure, and there are times life happens and we can&#8217;t follow through the way we&#8217;ve declared we would. With people watching us it creates pressure to not appear like we&#8217;re failing.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Pressure increases anxiety, and we all know how unhealthy it is when we are filled with anxiety. Just as bad is </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Anxiety reduces clarity, and </span><span style="font-size: 18.6667px;">when anxiety occupies our thoughts it becomes very challenging to be clear headed, focused and productive. This leaves us in an even worse state.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">Quiet exploration:</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Reduces ego involvement</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Allows honest evaluation</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Protects stability</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Builds internal confidence</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Midlife isn’t about proving ourselves to anyone. It&#8217;s about gaining clarity and moving forward in a healthy manner and timing, not in haste making more bad decisions.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">It’s about bringing alignment in to our lives and clear direction, even if it&#8217;s just one step at a time.</span></span></p>
<h1><b>Stability and Change Can Coexist</b></h1>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">You can:</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Keep your job</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Test something small</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Explore remote opportunities</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Build slowly</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Adjust strategically</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span></span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">You don’t need urgency.</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> You need structure.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400; font-size: 14pt;">And structure creates momentum without panic.</span></p>
