Great read and so true! I have to be honest, I’ve been through that midlife crisis a couple of times and the best part for me was to consult and be able to take a look at possible answers that I hadn’t considered.
The best thing you can do is to not only think outside the box but take a look at the different boxes available; we’d be surprised what’s in them!

I’m someone who’s capable and responsible too, so when I’ve felt stuck, I’ve definitely turned that frustration inward and wondered why I couldn’t just “figure it out already.” I love how you explain that it’s not a lack of motivation, it’s being careful. That reframing alone feels like a weight lifted. Also, the part about fear meaning “this matters” really clicked for me, because that’s exactly how it feels. This post feels really honest and calming, like I’m being given permission to move forward without turning my whole life upside down. Hi Denny – This was such a great read. I think many smart, capable people feel stuck in midlife, but they rarely say it out loud because they assume they should have it all figured out by now. Should have had this 5 years ago when I retired from the Army! Then again, Covid had sprung its ugly head and the resources I looked to didn’t really know how to get us through that…

That being said, really appreciate your information – something anyone looking to go from a 9 to 5 job to being self-employed could definitely use.

I feel like I’m standing right at the edge of this same space, knowing something needs to change, but not fully seeing what’s next yet. I need to find a job and have been out of work for the last 6 years. I don’t even know where to start. It is very scary, but it helps so much to hear that it’s not wrong to feel that way, and it’s just part of the process. I loved how you said that I don’t need the whole plan, I just need the next honest step. Thank you for putting words to something I’m quietly getting ready to walk through myself. This came a the perfect time for me!
